What is Rumeysa Gelgi’s height?
The world’s tallest woman is called Rumeysa Gelgi, she is Turkish and is 24 years old. She has been the world’s tallest teenager since 2014. She is passionate about detective novels and is a front-end web developer. Rumeysa currently holds 5 world records which we will discover later.
Rumeysa Gelgi, who is therefore the world’s tallest woman, measures 215.16cm. She recently made headlines during a flight between Istanbul and San Francisco where the airline Turkish Airlines moved 6 economy seats to allow her to travel lying down.

What illness does she suffer from?
She was born on 1 January 1997 and doctors quickly diagnosed a rare disease. It is Weaver syndrome, which is a rare and incurable genetic mutation. Due to this syndrome, Rumeysa underwent many operations in her youth. Today she can walk upright but it is very uncomfortable for her and a wheelchair is better suited for movement.
Because of her height, she has become very popular, especially on social media. She takes the opportunity to draw attention to her rare disease, she is only the 27th person on the planet to have been diagnosed. In addition to medication, Rumeysa swims to strengthen her body, which needs it.
She has also never attended school because of her condition, but has always followed educational programmes that allowed her to graduate in web development.

The Weaver syndrome that Rumeysa suffers from is a rare and often hereditary genetic disease. It is caused by a malfunction of the EZH2 gene. One of the main causes of this malfunction is accelerated growth and more advanced bone age. There can also be limb abnormalities and neurological issues. This limits Rumeysa’s mobility, who in addition to a wheelchair must use a walker to move around.
What world records does Rumeysa hold?
In 2014, she became the world’s tallest teenager. She was 17 years old and measured 2.13m. In addition to these records as the world’s tallest woman and teenager, she has accumulated other world records:
- Longest finger of a living woman (11.2cm)
- World’s largest hands for a woman (right hand 24.93cm and left hand 24.26cm)
- World’s longest back for a woman (59cm)

These various titles have brought her notoriety that she uses to raise public awareness of this disease. She also uses this platform to convey messages of positivity, kindness and tolerance.
